Tournament coming up

As a side question, I can sign up as a recreational player or an intermediate player but I am a beginner. If on a 18 hole course i go over par by 5 to 9 strokes, what should I be?

I'd say sign up for the Rec class. This will probably be your best bet. There is also another Tourny on Sunday in Mesa. This event is called "The Jewel" and usually has a good turn-out. It's a fun course to play or just watch.
